Josiah, founder of A Place to Serve and Grow
Middle school founder

Meet the founder

Josiah started with a simple question: “Where can I serve?”

“I was spending a lot of time looking for places where I could serve and grow. When I finally found great opportunities, I would share them with my friends. Then I realized I wanted to share them with all young people who want to grow.”

Josiah is a Broward County middle schooler. He believes young people already have the desire to make a difference—the hard part is often knowing where to begin. He created A Place to Serve & Grow to meet that desire with one easy, varied and trustworthy list of opportunities.

Before you begin

Make sure your service counts.

Every school has its own rules. An opportunity may be meaningful without qualifying for official service hours, so always confirm first.

  1. 1
    Ask your school

Get approval from your service-learning coordinator before starting.

  2. 2
    Confirm with the organization

Ask about age limits, supervision, applications and hour documentation.

  3. 3
    Keep good records

Log dates and hours and request a signature or verification promptly.

Help the list grow

Know an opportunity other students should discover?

Josiah’s goal is to build this resource with the community. Every suggestion will be reviewed and verified before it is added.
